This bizarre “thirsty” concrete is called Topmix Permeable concrete and it can absorb 880 gallons of water in 60 seconds!!! It is designed to be a super-absorbent surface covering that allows water to seep through it rather than sitting on top in an attempt to combat flooding. The seemingly magical product comes from Tarmac, a UK building materials and solutions company, which created Topmix Permeable to divert rainwater during storms.

Bizarre THIRSTY concrete sucks up hundreds of gallons of water in seconds!!

One of the main issues with permeable pavements is that they require heavy maintenance due to blockage, as dirt and oil can build up between the gaps! But, the secret of this smart pavement is that it’s not based on a standard sand mixture, but tiny pieces of crushed granite that were put together just enough loosely, so that they can allow the water to pass through!!

While helping to prevent surface water flooding during storms, the concrete could also help to make roads or cycle paths safer by preventing puddles that could pose a risk, according to Tarmac! Good job! Check it out!
