“Swarm”, a flying machine made out of 54 counter-rotation propellers!

Just when I thought I’ve seen it all, here comes the “Swarm”. Drones have become very popular lately, and they are interesting because they are non-piloted aircrafts that are remotely controlled by the user. Drones are generally considered as a hobby while there are people who think of them as some annoying toys. It was clear that people will take these things on another level, and, in this case, watching drones in action wasn’t enough.

“Swarm”, a flying machine made out of 54 counter-rotation propellers!

The “Swarm” is a big drone or a flying machine made out of 54 counter-rotation propellers!! It has six grouped control channels with KK2.15 stabilization. Take off weight 148kg, max lift, approx. 164kg. Endurance10 minutes. Power approx. 22KW. This project has few disadvantages, such as annoying buzzing, it’s very unstable… the biggest flaw is the large number of props running at high speed which means the net torque reactions are relatively low, so the craft has little yaw authority. So it probably needs a tail rotor for spot turns. But it’s still cool! Check it out!
