Implosion is a process in which objects are destroyed by collapsing (or being squeezed in) on themselves. The opposite of explosion, implosion concentrates matter and energy.

After crushing more than 900 explosions, the Mythbusters crew finally took on a program about implosions. And it was a single-minded effort to do a big one, that of a 67,000-pound cold-rolled half-inch steel rail tanker.

It took a year for the producers to source a tanker car for them to destroy, and months more to find a rail yard willing to host the shoot. About the implosion itself, Adam and Jamie brought in a crane and dropped a chunk of concrete on top of the corroded tanker, denting the top. Then they vacuum pumped the tanker again. And after 10 minutes and a drop in pressure of 23 inches, the tank collapsed.
