2017 Mercedes AMG is the company’s aggressive GTR

2017 Mercedes AMG2017 Mercedes AMG is the latest and greatest sports car of the company and it’s a GTR.

“Godzilla” is the nickname of the Nissan GTR. Now that Mercedes has its own GTR, it begs the question: What – or who – is the equivalent of Godzilla in German? Well, we’ll let Mercedes figure that one out.

The 2017 Mercedes AMG GTR takes the lion-like GTS and adds extreme performance and way more power. For those of you who are unaware of the company’s new nomenclature, the Mercedes GTR brand is gets an  “- AMG” suffix instead of “-Benz”. The reason behind it is simple;AMG, the brand’s performance arm created it. Now, “AMG” stands for the sportiest of models, and the siffux “-Benz” for the standard Mercedes.

2017 Mercedes AMGThe 2017 Mercedes AMG has a 4.0-liter Biturbo V8 under the hood. It produces 517 pound-feet of torque and 57 horsepower. A 7-speed dual-clutch transaxle in the rear of the car routes that power to the rear wheels. Simple as that. All in all, the 2017 Mercedes AMG goes from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds. With a top speed of 198 mph, this car will tear the track apart.

The rear wheels on the GTR are supposed to propel the car forward. However, on the 2017 Mercedes AMG they also steer as well.  The four-wheel steering allows for quicker turn-ins and sharper handling. Not that it needs help there.

AMG designers made sure that they widen both the rear and the front fenders, so to give the 2017 Mercedes AMG a wider stance. The GTR features a broader posture and wider ties meaning that it is way more of a cornering machine that then GTS.
If you’re one of the discerning observers, you’ll notice that the company reworked the front and the rear fascias of the GTR. The most striking difference is perhaps the “Panamericana” front grille. Responsible for that is the race car look that inspired the folks at AMG. However, that’s not the only race-car-inspired part of the 2017 Mercedes AMG GTR.

The company did most of the car’s development at the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany. The nickname of that racetrack is the “Green Hell”;thus, the distinctive new green paint color for the 2017 Mercedes AMG. In addition, the color is called “AMG green hell mango”.  It may sound like a code-name of a militarily action but, here, it’s just a paint color.

In the video below you can check out the exterior and interior more closely. In addition, you’ll get to hear the engine roars – better crank up those speaker!
