In 2008 Daynom built his first (of two) rotary-powered drift car, a Mazda FD3 RX-7, and competed in his first pro season of the D1NZ National Drifting Championship in 2009, winning ‘best newcomer’ for the season. In 2010 with the help of some international sponsors, Daynom was able to compete in Formula Drift Asia championship, qualifying first in Malaysia and finishing 7th overall for the season.

In the following years Daynom has been successful at home and abroad, with many wins and consistent top 10 finishes. In 2013 after a string of reliability issues, Daynom and the team switched to a Toyota 2JZ power plant across all of his cars, the new found reliability saw the highest ever qualifying score in NZ’s competitive drift history and overall round wins. Daynom Templeman has just completed his new build in the form of a 2JZ powered E46 M3. Daynom has been an advocate of the FD RX7 for many years but felt that he had got to the limits of the chassis, especially when it came to steering angle and geometry so to move the game on he built this new weapon. Featuring the 3.4 2JZ from the RX7 the BMW revs to 9000rpm and produces over 1100bhp which is just about enough to melt those West Lake tyres!!
