Induction motors are the most commonly used electrical machines. They are cheaper, more rugged and easier to maintain compared to other alternatives. These are also called as Asynchronous Motors, because an induction motor always runs at a speed lower than synchronous speed. Synchronous speed means the speed of the rotating magnetic field in the stator.

Induction Motor Working Principle – How Does It Work?!

The most  common type of induction motor has a squirrel cage rotor in which  aluminum conductors or bars are shorted together at both ends of the  rotor by cast aluminum end rings. When three currents flow through the  three symmetrically placed windings, a sinusoidally distributed air gap  flux generating the rotor current is produced.
