Proof for that are the many badass drivers that come from this part of the world and the Drift Allstars event. One of the many promising and talented drifters is Kristaps Blušs, who dominated the EEDC series 2015 in his HGK Motorsports build BMW. Kristaps has some very unique flair to his driving style. He drives his BMW in a similar fashion to how Forrest Wang throws his Silvia around. He is a big WiseFab driver and some of the builds that come out of HGK Motorsports are nothing short of impressive. However, most of their builds are not even close to Formula Drift legal.

Formula D championship, which takes place in the US, is considered the most prestigious in the drift competitions in the world. Since the equipment level is higher in the US and also the technical rules are different than in Europe, it was a logical decision to build a new sports car. HGK motorsports had five months to do their magic in the workshop! They built the new drift car on the already well-known 3 Series (E46 generation) BMW base.

Although the concept hasn’t changed one bit, there are two significant changes. First, the 830 horsepower 7.6-liter V8 sports engine, and the second, rear differential with a variable gear ratio. Latvian drifter Kristaps Blušs proved that he is worth all the fuss, because now he is part of the 20 best drivers in Formula Drift standings. His name is standing there next to Vaughn Gittin Jr, Ryan Tuerck, Chris Forsberg and other worldwide popular names. That’s not a small achievement. Check out this short film that fellow Latvian “Robyworks” made for Kristaps!
