Volkswagen T-Prime GTE concept crossover could be the next Touareg

Volkswagen T-PrimeVolkswagen T-Prime is noticeably longer, larger, wider and lower vehicle compared to the current model. On the surface is just a new model to slot in above the Touareg. However, there is more to the Volkswagen T-Prime than it seems.

The Volkswagen T-Prime concept from the Beijing Motor Show has the AWD like a proper SUV should. However, this one features a plug-in hybrid power-train. The system has a 2.0-liter turbo 4 and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, the folks at VW integrated an electric motor into that gearbox.

Volkswagen T-PrimeWorking in tandem, that power-train will produce 516 pound-feet of torque and 375 ponies. In addition, it will go from 0 to 60 in 6.0 seconds and it will reach 139 mph tops. The Volkswagen T-Prime can also travel on electric power only going up to 31 miles, using a 14.1-kWh battery.

The Volkswagen T-Prime also features a lot of technologically advanced interior. Obviously, the German automaker has invested a lot of time to make it as it is. Gesture controls, touchscreen panels and voice commands – the Volkswagen T-Prime has it all. Moreover, there is a pair 9.6-inch display between the rear seat for adjusting the climate control and a pair of 10.1 – inch tablets in the back. The transmission is also operated by wire from a glass scroll wheel. The only conventional controls are the stalks, steering wheels and the pedals.

The folks at VW wrapped everything in the latest evolution of the automaker’s design language. Furthermore, they take it all in a new direction. With the reveal of the T-Prime the company is showing that it has an intention to expand the crossover lineup. And yes, we love it and we bet you do, too.
